Endless forest stretches, perfect asphalt, and an absolute minimum of traffic. Thanks to that, you get the feeling you’re riding on the very edge of the world. If you’re looking for an ideal region for a multi-day motorcycle journey, Bohemian Forest (Šumava) is a sure bet.
Český Krumlov – Vyšší Brod: entering the borderlands
An ideal starting point is Český Krumlov, a town with a unique atmosphere and a historic center listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Head toward Vyšší Brod, following a road that winds along the Vltava River. From here on, you’re riding through an area that for many years was part of the border zone.
Lipno – Volary – Soumarský Bridge: calm and history
Along the Lipno Reservoir, the landscape opens up and offers the first wide views. Continue toward Horní Planá, a good spot for a short stop by the water, and then deeper into the heart of Bohemian Forest.
Beyond Volary, the real Bohemian Forest begins. The route leads you to Soumarský Bridge, one of the region’s iconic landmarks.
Borová Lada – Kvilda – Modrava: the heart of the national park
From Soumarský Bridge, continue through Borová Lada and Kvilda, following the upper course of the Vltava River. Modrava is the natural center of the entire route. A small village in the middle of the national park.
Srní – Rejštejn – Kašperské Hory: pure riding joy
From Modrava, continue through Srní and along the Otava River via Rejštejn to Kašperské Hory, where a longer stop is well worth it. In addition to the castle, you’ll also find a motorcycle museum with unique exhibits that will delight any two-wheel enthusiast.
Sušice: the gateway to Šumava
The final section leads from Kašperské Hory to Sušice. The road gradually straightens, traffic slowly increases, and you know the Šumava silence is behind you. Sušice is an ideal place to end the route, offering accommodation, food, and the perfect setting to plan your next motorcycle adventure.
